Olives

  The difference between extra virgin olive oil and regular or “pure” olive oil lies in the process used to extract the oil from the olives, which affects both the flavor and smoke point of the oil.Extra virgin olive oil is unrefined, which means that it is made by cold pressing olives to extract the oil. No heat is used in this process, so the resulting oil retains a lot its olive-y flavors. Regular olive oil (sometimes marked “pure olive oil”) is a combination of extra virgin olive oil and refined olive oil, which has a more neutral flavor and a higher smoke point. Tea

  THE CHINESE HAVE BEEN DRINKING IT FOR MORE THAN 2000 YEARS … Around 141 BCE, Han Dynasty Emperor Jing Di was buried with a wooden box containing important treasures he would need in the afterlife, including high-quality tea leaves. But his ancestors may have been enjoying tea for even longer than that. Chinese legend holds that the emperor Shen Nong first drank hot water accidentally infused with tea leaves way back in 2737 BCE. Regardless, until around 300 CE, it was considered a medicinal draught rather than a casual beverage.

Cheese

  Over 25% of cheese in the U.S. is made in Wisconsin (the rest comes mostly from California, Idaho and New York). More than half the nation’s artisan cheese is made in Wisconsin.Listen, there’s a reason we call ourselves cheeseheads. Not only does Wisconsin make a LOT of cheese, but our farmers make GOOD cheese. The Dairy State wins over half the prizes at the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest each year. (Yes, that’s a thing; yes, I want to go, too.) Wisco cheesemakers have won one-third of the honors at the World Championship Cheese Contest, a competition that’s been around since the 1950s.
